Primary Functions of the Office of Indian Education

  • Grants Management – Design and oversee system for administering all types of Indian education grants, including formula and discretionary.

  • Evaluation – Prepare and track performance indicators and help carry out national evaluations of programs.

  • Interagency Coordination – Provide leadership for ED-wide policy coordination in Indian education, formulating policy and guidance, and identifying key issue areas.

  • Communication – Help develop and implement a system for maintaining open communications with the field through a strong relationship with the National Advisory Council on Indian Education (NACIE).

Office of Indian Education Values Statement

  • Program Operations: We will provide high-quality services to American Indian and Alaska Native students through effective program operations.

  • Learning Organization: We will create an environment conducive to learning, that empowers all staff to develop and achieve high standards for the organization to meet its mission.

  • Professional Development: We will actively engage in developing ourselves professionally and personally to enhance the performance of the Office of Indian Education and further our career goals.
