Applicant Information

On July 3, 2019, the U.S. Department of Education’s Charter Schools Program (CSP) announced the Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 Grants to Charter School Developers for the Opening of New Charter Schools and for the Replication and Expansion of High-Quality Charter Schools. The FY 2019 Notice Inviting Applications (NIA) and clarifying correction can be found in the Federal Register. The competition closed on Friday, August 2, 2019 Eastern Time.

Pre-Application Webinars

The Charter Schools Program (CSP) held the FY 2019 Developer Program pre-application webinar on Monday, July 8, 2019, 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

  • This webinar reviewed the priorities, selection criteria, and the application and eligibility requirements, in addition to the steps required to complete the Grants.gov registration process.

Application Submission

  • Applications must be submitted electronically through the Grants.gov system at http://www.grants.gov/.
  • Please do not e-mail an electronic copy of a grant application to U.S. Department of Education staff.

Registering on Grants.gov:

  • Applicants must register at Grants.gov prior to submitting an application.
  • The Grants.gov registration process takes approximately 5 business days to complete, but Grants.gov recommends allowing several weeks to complete all steps.
  • You may begin working on your application while completing the registration process, but you cannot submit an application until all of the registration steps are complete.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are developers that have applied to an authorized public chartering authority to operate a charter school; and provided adequate and timely notice to that authority. For complete eligibility information, see the NIA  and clarifying correction.
