Elementary and Secondary School Counseling Programs

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

 

This program provides funding to LEAs to establish or expand elementary and secondary school counseling programs, with special consideration given to applicants that can:

  • Demonstrate the greatest need for counseling services in the schools to be served;
  • Propose the most innovative and promising approaches; and
  • Show the greatest potential for replication and dissemination.

 

TYPES OF PROJECTS

 

Projects should: (1) use a developmental, preventive approach, (2) expand the inventory of effective counseling programs, (3) include in-service training, and (4) involve parents and community groups.

 

Project Prevent Grant Program

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This program provides grants to local educational agencies (LEAs) impacted by community violence and to expand the capacity of LEAs to implement community- and school-based strategies to help prevent community violence and mitigate the impacts of exposure to community violence.

TYPES OF PROJECTS

These projects must include:

  1. Severity and magnitude of the problem and identification of schools to be served by the proposed project;
  2. Collaboration and coordination with community-based organizations;
  3. Project Activities designed to promote a safer and improved school environment;
  4. Evidence-based, culturally and linguistically competent, and developmentally appropriate programs and practices; and a
  5. Framework for planning, implementation, and sustainability

Applicants must address all five subparts of this absolute priority.
