Foster Care Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Exchange Series Summary

P2P Description: The goal of the Foster Care P2P Exchange series was to support participating states to ensure successful implementation of Title I, Part A for foster-care requirements, of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), to support educational stability for students in foster care. The State Support Network (Network) conducted needs-sensing with participant States to develop topics for each session in the series. The topics included the following:

  • Session 1: Collaboration with Child Welfare Agencies
  • Session 2: Data Systems
  • Session 3: Transportation
  • Session 4: Roles and Responsibilities of Points of Contact (POCs) and Liaisons at State and Local Levels

P2P Objectives:

  • To understand the Title I, Part A educational stability requirements for students in foster care.
  • To identify promising practices, innovative solutions, and tools and resources from peer states and other technical-assistance providers to support implementation of the Title I, Part A educational stability requirements for students in foster care.
  • To define specific action steps to address challenge(s) and or needs discussed during the P2P exchange session.

Participating SEAs: Alabama, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Iowa, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.

P2P Duration: July 2019 through August 2019
