What’s New

The U.S. Department of Education published a Notice Inviting Applications (NIA) in the Federal Register of January 19, 2021 for the fiscal year (FY) 2021 Promise Neighborhoods (PN) Program competition, Assistance Listing Number 84.215N. The Department amended the PN NIA by removing one of the competitive preference priorities, extending the deadline for transmittal of applications to April 19, 2021, and extending the deadline for intergovernmental review to June 21, 2021.

Call for Peer Reviewers

The U.S. Department of Education (the Department) is seeking peer reviewers with demonstrated expertise in the following area(s): early learning, education and school reform, family and community engagement, need and organizational analysis, evaluation, and equity.  The Department is also seeking reviewers with knowledge of high needs communities and the challenges faced by students and their families.  The Department considers reviewers without regard to race, color, national origin, gender, age or disability. Please read through the instructions  and complete the submission process if you are interested in serving in this round of the PN grant competition.

Program Overview

The PN program is authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended (ESEA). The purpose of the PN program is to significantly improve the academic and developmental outcomes of children living in the most distressed communities of the United States, including ensuring school readiness, high school graduation, and access to a community-based continuum of high-quality services. The program serves neighborhoods with high concentrations of low-income individuals; multiple signs of distress, which may include high rates of poverty, childhood obesity, academic failure, and juvenile delinquency, adjudication, or incarceration; and schools implementing comprehensive support and improvement activities or targeted support and improvement activities under section 1111(d) of the ESEA.
