Innovation

The Office of Education Innovation Programs supports nontraditional programs that improve student achievement and attainment (Investing in Innovation (i3)/Education Innovation and Research (EIR)); supports the development of educational television and digital media programs targeted at preschool and early elementary school children and their families to promote early learning and school readiness, with a particular interest in reaching low-income children (Ready to Learn (RTL)); and supports Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) and their partners in implementing, evaluating, and refining tools and approaches for developing the non-cognitive skills of middle-grades students in order to increase student success (Skills for Success).

Education Innovation and Research (EIR)

The Education Innovation and Research (EIR) Program, established under section 4611 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), provides funding to create, develop, implement, replicate, or take to scale entrepreneurial, evidence-based, field-initiated innovations to improve student achievement and attainment for high-need students; and rigorously evaluate such innovations. Investing in Innovation (i3)

The Investing in Innovation Fund provides competitive grants to applicants with a record of improving student achievement and attainment in order to expand the implementation of, and investment in, innovative practices that are demonstrated to have an impact on improving student achievement or student growth, closing achievement gaps, decreasing dropout rates, increasing high school graduation rates, or increasing college enrollment and completion rates. Ready to Learn Television supports the development of educational television and digital media targeted at preschool and early elementary school children and their families. Skills for Success (SfS)

The Skills for Success Program supports Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) and their partners in implementing, evaluating, and refining tools and approaches for developing the non-cognitive skills of middle-grades students in order to increase student success. Grants provide funding for the implementation, evaluation, and refinement of existing tools and approaches that integrate the development of students’ non-cognitive skills into classroom-level activities and existing strategies designed to improve schools.
